INTERACTIVE GAME FOR THE GLOBE AND MAIL

An interactive game released in advance of the 2013 Canadian federal budget that encourages users to attempt to reduce the budgetary deficit by selecting their preferred cuts from a list of options.

Special features:
  • The bar chart summarizing the user's progress in reducing the deficit is "sticky" and stays in a fixed position at the top of the screen as the user explores the list of budget-cutting options.
  • Custom social sharing functionality allows users to share a link to their personalized list of cuts.

The centerpiece interactive of The Globe and Mail's Salt: Hard to Shake series, this calculator demonstrates how sodium levels in common consumer products can quickly add up to amounts exceeding a person's daily recommended intake.

Special features:
  • Easter egg alert! Click anywhere in the white space near the person and hit '5' on your keyboard. As you add food products to the list, you'll be able to watch the person chew their food. Hit '4' to turn this feature off.
